Hoy quiero hablarles sobre cómo convertirse en un multimillonario. Ahora, esto se refiere a dólares estadounidenses, no a dólares de Zimbabue u otra moneda. 2.6 millones de dólares estadounidenses equivale a mil millones de dólares de Zimbabue, pero no vamos a hacer eso.
Tampoco vamos a tener que fundar una empresa o heredar dinero. En su lugar, van a convertirse en un multimillonario hecho a sí mismo. ¿Por qué un billón y no solo un millón? Bueno, un millón de dólares simplemente no es lo que solía ser. Si vemos ciudades como Nueva York, San Francisco y Vancouver, el costo de vida ha aumentado mucho. Queremos mil millones de dólares, y hoy les mostraré cómo lograrlo.
La lista de multimillonarios
Actualmente, solo hay 1.645 multimillonarios en el mundo. De ellos, dos tercios se hicieron a sí mismos. Podemos pensar en personas como Bill Gates de Microsoft, o Jeff Bezos de Amazon, quienes hicieron su fortuna. Un poco más del 10% de la lista heredó su dinero, como la familia Walton, fundadora de Walmart. El 20% restante es una combinación de aquellos que heredaron dinero y también hicieron gran parte de su propia riqueza, como Donald Trump.
¿Cuáles son tus probabilidades de terminar en esta lista? Bueno, con alrededor de siete mil millones de personas en la Tierra, tus probabilidades son de aproximadamente 0.0002%. Pero con mucho trabajo duro, persistencia y dedicación, tú también puedes lograrlo.
Tu trabajo y las inversiones
Para convertirte en un multimillonario, necesitarás un trabajo relativamente bien remunerado. No me refiero a ser un jugador de béisbol para los Yankees o un artista que gana millones al año. Solo necesitas un trabajo que te brinde al menos seis cifras. Supongamos que estás ganando al menos $100.000 al año. Hay varios trabajos que cumplirían con este requisito, como ser dentista, ortodoncista, ingeniero o trabajar en tecnología. Todos estos trabajos pueden generar mucho dinero para ti.
También tendrás que invertir como loco. Digamos que estás ganando $100.000, deberías poner al menos $45.000 en inversiones. Las inversiones te ayudarán a hacer crecer tu dinero, y necesitarás aumentar tu contribución cada año. Supongamos que vas a aumentar al menos un 5% cada año, lo cual es bastante razonable considerando que probablemente recibirás aumentos salariales con el tiempo por hacer un buen trabajo.
Necesitas invertir en el mercado, por ejemplo, podrías optar por un fondo de índice S&P 500. Durante los últimos 40 o 50 años, el rendimiento aproximado de un fondo de índice S&P 500 ha sido del 10% anual. Digamos que tienes 21 años, incluso si eres un poco mayor, aún puedes intentarlo, pero idealmente tienes mucho tiempo a tu favor.
En el primer año, vas a invertir esos $45.000, y lo que notarás es que esa cantidad crecerá. A los 22 años, tus $45,000 habrán crecido hasta casi $50.000. A medida que sigas contribuyendo a ese ritmo, a los 30 años esa cantidad equivaldrá a aproximadamente $800.000, y para los 60 años, tendrías cerca de $64 millones. Estas volviéndote bastante rico, probablemente tendrás más dinero del que sabrás qué hacer con él.
Para cuando tengas 90 años, tendrías aproximadamente $680 millones. Vas a estar muy rico, y en los próximos cuatro años, esos $680 millones se convertirán en mil millones de dólares. Entonces, para cuando tengas 94 años, serás un multimillonario. Y así de simple es, siempre y cuando sigas invirtiendo dinero en el mercado y el mercado siga generando ganancias para ti, es muy posible ser un multimillonario.
Ahora, lo que debemos tener en cuenta es que en unos 70 años, un mil millones no será lo mismo que hoy. De hecho, en unos 73 años, un mil millones de dólares solo equivaldrá a unos $80 o $90 millones de dólares en los dólares de hoy.
